Perth Childrens Hospital

The Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) is a $1.2 billion project. This is a landmark project that forms the cornerstone of the WA government investment in delivering major social infrastructure for future generations of Western Australians.

John Holland has been appointed the Managing Contractor to deliver the Perth Children’s Hospital and will provide tertiary level health services including ambulatory care, inpatient and outpatient care, with a 274 bed capacity over 78,000sqm floor space. The new facility will house WA’s only paediatric trauma centre and will provide nearly double the theatre capacity that currently exists at the Princess Margaret Hospital Perth. The PCH project represents the largest building project John Holland has delivered in Australia.

Aircom Group Pty Limited (Aircom) has been contracted by John Holland to provide the 160mm Sumetzberger Pneumatic Tube System for the Perth Children’s Hospital. The PTS designed for the PCH project will incorporate the latest in Pneumatic Tube technology and will showcase the first auto unload Pathology station in Australia. In excess of  3 kms of 160mm PVC tube will be installed to provide transportation for all Pathology and Pharmaceutical samples.

In addition to transporting carriers internally throughout the network of stations installed in the PCH, Aircom will link the Pneumatic Tube System between two buildings – PCH building and the new Pathwest building. The two buildings are linked via an underground services tunnel and Aircom will install 2 off 160mm independent lines to connect the PCH to the Pathwest.

The Pathwest building will house a state of the art Aircom Pathology Work Station incorporating an Auto Unload Pathology Station and Multi Send / Multi Receive PTS stations – hub of the Sumetzberger Pneumatic Tube System. Up to 80% of total daily system transactions will be transported to the Pathwest from the PCH. The total daily system transaction’s is envisaged to be in excess of 1,500 transactions per day.
